Pelican Waste & Debris, LLC is owned and operated by Roddie Matherne, Corey Callais, Nicholas Callais, Harold “Hal” Callais, Charles Callais and Callais Capital AG, LP. The experience and leadership we bring to the waste industry puts Pelican at the top!

Leadership

Roddie Matherne

Owner / CEO

Mr. Matherne brings over 40 years of experience in the solid waste collection and recycling industry to Pelican Waste & Debris and is a recognized expert in the waste industry. He has spearheaded programs that resulted in operational improvements, market growth, his ability to enhance business operational environments and his ability to manage numerous locations.

Roddie has spent most of his career working at SWDI, LLC from 1983 to 2010. He has served in virtually every aspect of the business having worked as a hopper, residential driver, mechanic, route supervisor/safety, operations manager, sales and marketing and as general manager from 2003 until SWDI sold in 2010. After the buyout by IESI/Progressive Waste, he continued his role as general manager for approximately 2 years then moved on to Governmental Affairs.

In September 2013, Roddie and his partners opened Pelican Waste & Debris after seeing the need in South Louisiana’s market for a dependable, honest and experienced locally owned and operated waste company. The residents and business owners deserve to have good service. Through hard work and dedication to his job, Roddie is now the CEO/Owning Partner of Pelican Waste. He has developed and managed routes for countless municipal contracts and businesses.

Roddie is a member of the Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce, Lafourche Chamber, St. Mary Chamber, St. Bernard Chamber, SCIA and CCA.

Corey Callais

Owner / Chairman

Mr. Callais brings over 45 years of waste collection experience to Pelican Waste & Debris, LLC. He was the Owner/CEO of SWDI, LLC from 1978 to 2010. SWDI was in the top 12 largest independently owned waste hauling companies in the United States. Mr. Corey directly managed large municipal residential, commercial and private business waste contracts. Through his leadership and vision Pelican Waste, like SWDI, are an example of the best of management philosophies and policies.

Mr. Callais continuously seeks industry opportunities and innovative approaches. Corey is a former owner of Abdon Callais Offshore, which has long been recognized in the oilfield industry as a high-quality marine transportation company. ACO’s specialty was providing multiple sized, technologically advanced OSVs and related services to oil & gas exploration, production companies and service providers primarily working in the U.S.  Gulf of Mexico market.

ACO had one of the youngest and largest fleets operating in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico with a focus on providing a wide variety of cargo and personnel transportation services  to both shallow water and deep water locations. Of ACO’s 48 vessel fleet, 92% is dynamically positioned (DP1 or DP2) and 58% is 205 feet in length or longer.

Corey is a member of the Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce, Lafourche Chamber, and serves as Chairman of Community Bank – Raceland, LA, President of United Community Bank – Gonzales, LA, Board Member/Manager of Callais Realty, LLC., Board Member/Manager of Land-Glo, LLC.

Harold "Hal" Callais II

Owner / Member

Harold J. Callais II has taken interest in the waste industry, being around the business his entire life. He has a Bachelor of Science in Finance and is Managing Director of Callais Capital Management, LLC. He has actively managed personal portfolios increasing net value. Hal also serves as an Administration Analyst for United Community Bank.

Hal is a member of the National Association of Business Economists, Terrebonne Parish Chamber of Commerce, Lafourche Parish Chamber of Commerce, Nicholls State University Alumni Association, and Coastal Restoration Activities.  

Nicholas "Nick" Callais

Owner / Secretary

Nicholas Callais, following in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps after being around the business his entire life, invested in Pelican Waste & Debris, LLC. He graduated from Tulane University of Louisiana in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a concentration in American Politics and Policy, Philosophy with a concentration in Law, Morality and Society, Minor in Economics and received the Tulane Emerging Leader Award. 

Nick is a member of Terrebonne RPEC – Vice N Chairman / Dist. 6 Youngest Elected officials in LA March 2012 – Present, Knights of Columbus, World Affairs Council of New Orleans, Nature Conservancy, Terrebonne Parish Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club of Houma, SCIA.

Charles Michael Callais

Owner / Member

Charles Callais became a part owner of Pelican Waste & Debris in June 2024. Just like his brother, Corey Callais, he was a part owner of SWDI, LLC from 1978 to 2010. He brings over 30 years of experience in the waste industry and is an active member of the company.

Callais Capital AG, LP

Owner / Member

Callais Capital AG, LP is a part owner of Pelican Waste & Debris, LLC of Houma, LA. Callais Capital AG, LP is a growth equity venture capital fund managed by Callais Capital Management in Thibodaux, LA. The fund was organized in February 2015 and invests in high growth potential companies. The principals of Callais Capital Management are Harold J Callais II, Corey J Callais and Nicholas Callais.
